Courvoisier Old Fashioned

Tue, Apr 23, 24  |  cognac cocktails

The Courvoisier Old Fashioned is a sophisticated twist on the classic cocktail, utilizing the smooth and rich character of Courvoisier cognac. Here's how to craft this delightful drink:

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Courvoisier VSOP Cognac (or another Courvoisier expression you prefer)
  • 1 Sugar Cube (or ½ oz simple syrup)
  • 3 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Orange Twist (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a rocks glass, muddle the sugar cube with the Angostura bitters to release their flavors and create a sugary paste. If using simple syrup, skip this step and add it directly to the glass.
  2. Pour the Courvoisier cognac over the muddled sugar or simple syrup.
  3. Add a large ice cube to the glass. The larger ice cube melts slower, diluting the drink less and preserving its rich flavor.
  4. If using muddled sugar, you can stir gently to help it dissolve completely.  This step is not necessary if using simple syrup.
  5. Hold the orange twist expressed over the glass to release the citrus oils, then add it as a garnish.

Tips:

  • While VSOP is a great choice, you can experiment with other Courvoisier expressions like XO for a deeper flavor profile.
  • The sugar cube or simple syrup adds sweetness. Adjust the amount based on your preference.
  • For a touch of warmth, add a tiny pinch of ground cinnamon or nutmeg to the muddled sugar or simple syrup.
  • Feel free to add a maraschino cherry for a classic touch.

Enjoy Responsibly!

The Courvoisier Old Fashioned is a luxurious and flavorful cocktail, perfect for sipping and savoring. Remember to enjoy responsibly and be mindful of the alcohol content.
