Beat the Heat with a Tequila Lemonade

Tue, Apr 16, 24  |  tequila cocktails

The Tequila Lemonade is a summertime staple, offering a perfect balance of sweet and tart with a boozy kick. Here are two recipe options to quench your thirst, depending on your preference for a quick and easy mix or a homemade lemonade base.

Option 1: Speedy Tequila Lemonade

This version uses pre-made lemonade for a fuss-free preparation.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces tequila (blanco or silver tequila recommended)
  • 6 ounces lemonade (chilled, homemade or store-bought)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge (for garnish)
  • Mint sprig (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. You'll need a highball glass, ice, and a jigger (optional) for measuring.
  2. Pack a highball glass with fresh ice cubes.
  3. Pour the tequila and lemonade: Add the tequila and lemonade over the ice.
  4. Give it a quick stir and garnish with a lime wedge and/or a mint sprig (optional) before enjoying your refreshing drink.

Tips:

  • Adjust the proportions of tequila and lemonade to your taste preference. For a stronger drink, add more tequila.
  • Get creative with garnishes! Consider a slice of cucumber or a muddled raspberry for a twist on the classic.

Option 2: Homemade Tequila Lemonade

For a more customized flavor experience, whip up a batch of fresh lemonade.

Ingredients:

For the Lemonade:

  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (around 6-8 lemons)

For the Cocktail:

  • 2 ounces tequila (blanco or silver tequila recommended)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge (for garnish)
  • Mint sprig (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in the lemon juice.
  2. Fill a highball glass with ice. Add tequila and then pour the homemade lemonade over the ice.
  3. Give it a quick stir and garnish with a lime wedge and/or a mint sprig (optional) before enjoying your refreshing drink.

Tips:

  • If you don't have a cocktail shaker, you can stir the tequila and lemonade together in a pitcher before pouring over ice.
  • For a sweeter lemonade, adjust the sugar quantity to your taste.
  • Leftover lemonade can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
